ASRWC April News and upcoming events for you

Published Sat 20 Apr 2024

What a month April has been!!

We had rain earlier in the month/late March, oh so much rain,  which was bad enough to see the Harmony Day Fun Run/Walk cancelled; Marsha was able to donate the platters we had ordered to the women's shelter, which was very much appreciated.

The April River was quite well attended; we did notice a few dropped off with the first cool Saturday morning, which would have been a lovely sleep-in :) You can find the member results here

Just last week, we had the Flynn's Grave Dash on the Desert Park footpath; Josiah brought his a-game and had a PB that morning, 38 seconds off his last run there. We had 47 runners and walkers, and it was a delight, as usual, to put on this event. You can find the results here

May the 4th (be with you :) ) is our next River Run at 7am; you can sign up here

There's been a lot of running out on the trails with West Macs Monster fast approaching. Speaking of the West Macs Monster, we have an ABC 25 km Simpsons Monster ticket up for grabs. All you have to be is an ASRWC member to enter. Send us your favourite photo from out on Alice Springs Trails and your Why? (e.g. Why do you love trail running? What drives you?). email asrwc1@gmail.com before Sunday28th April 5pm

We are so happy to see John Bermingham receive the 2024 NT SPORTS AWARD—NT Masters Sportsperson of the Year AND the Centralian Senior Citizen of the Year for his outstanding contribution to Athletics.

Congratulations John!

Our March Member of the Month is Monica Theron. Monica has supported the club by volunteering and participating in our events. She has a big smile for everyone and encourages everyone. Oh, and did we mention she's also a huge part of the West Macs Monster Sub-Commitee? She's a superstar!! Thanks for all you do, Mon!!

Do you have an upcoming run/walk event you're doing? Please share with us!! With love, sharing our member's achievements. Kicking couch to 5k goals? Running 100 miles? We wanna hear it all and share your triumphs with the community.

Also, don't forget we have a shirt preorder on until the 3rd of May

As usual, we have lots to share with you, and we hope you're all getting out there running or walking in the beautiful place we call home, Alice Springs.

Thanks again to you all for making this so much fun to do :)

Katie

2024 NT SPORTS AWARD – NT Masters Sportsperson of the Year

This year's NT Masters Sportsperson of the Year is John Bermingham for his commitment to athletics!

John not only won first place at the Masters World Athletics Cross Country Championships in 2023, but he's also the NT Masters record holder for 3000m and 5000m!

Plus, he was honoured as the Centralian Senior Citizen of the Year for his outstanding contribution to Athletics.

Congratulations John!

Our March Member of the Month is.. Monica Theron!!!

Monica is a super Vollie for the club and also a member of the West Macs Monster subcommittee. She participates at so many of our events, and when injury pulls her up, she’s out there as a marshal or helping at the rego desk. Her attitude and enthusiasm for the running community are awe-inspiring!!

She also manages to squeeze in her own runs between all of this at big events like Kosci and Run Larapinta. As you can see by that big smile, she has a great attitude to events and racing in general.

Thank you, Mon!! We appreciate you 😊

Great news! We are taking pre-orders now for our OC Clothing Co ASRWC Shirts and Singlets

There are some excellent member pricing deals available, too ( just one of the many cool benefits of being a member 🙂 ). All pricing is available on the site, and make sure that you're logged on when you make a purchase if you're a member.

There are:
-Men's/unisex cut singlets and tees
-Women's cut singlets and tees
-Children's cut singlets and tees

Sizing information is available on the shop listing for each garment type, but if you need any assistance, please reach out.

(I found the Tee's true to size and the singlets on the smaller size, so consider sizing up)

Delivery will be six weeks from when we put the order in, so early to mid-June.

West Macs Monster Volunteer Regos

Alice Springs' very own West Macs Monster Trail Running Festival will again be upon us soon. We need some local or even visiting champs to help the event run safely and smoothly. If you’re unable or not keen to run on the weekend of May 17th - 19th, but would like to get involved this is your time! Many different positions are available along with a lifetime of memories and stories to tell!

Enquire and express your interest to find out more here, and an email will be sent to you outlining the positions available with a brief role description. From there, we can work out what positions and times may best suit you.

The word is getting out about this incredible event, in 2024 we are hosting more participants than we ever have - your help is truly appreciated. This event cannot run without the support of people like you, so thank you.

* "Registering" here does not commit you... it simply means we will send you more information on the roles available and give you more details on what is involved.

What's Coming up ?!

We do require volunteers to fill roles. Please view and register for those roles here: Free 5km River Fun - Saturday 4th May 2024 Sat 4th May 7am

Looking forward to seeing you there!
