ASRWC July and August News + Things to Come!!
Somehow, it’s August!! It’s been so busy that I’ve somehow missed July’s newsletter, so I’ll apologise in advance. This might be a long one.
June Member of the Month
Our member of the month for June is…
KATE CLARK!!!
She’s been kicking goals this year, including Couch25k, which meant she was able to have a terrific WMM and then participate at Four Corners, tackling trails all around Alice Springs. And did we mention her extraordinary Vollie efforts for the club on top of this?? Kate, you are a superstar, and we appreciate you!!
Let’s cast our minds back.. since last I wrote.. We’ve had so very many significant events for the club
• Cassia Hill Enduro
• July River Run
• Simpson's Gap Half/10k/Kiddie Kilometer
• The Red Centre Wringer BYU
• August River Run
The Cassia Hill Enduro is becoming a favourite on the calendar.
17 brave souls made their way around the hill for the hour and collectively finished 99 loops! What absolute legends!
Now to the BIG one, The Simpsons Gap Half/10k!!
This one even surprised us with its growth this year!! We had 182 race participants and volunteers registered, which hugely exceeded all expectations! It was a perfect morning for racing. There were scones, brownies, AND some pretty cool medals if I say so myself! Our half-course record was beaten by Piotr Babis with a time of 1:15.26!!
Wait, what's this? It's another BIG ASRWC event?! I did say we've been busy :)
The Red Centre Wringer BYU!!
This is the rockstar event on the calendar. We had 54 participants register, and 46 made it to the start that morning. Our Last Woman Standing, Simone Edney, completed 15 loops, which was a cracking 100.5km!! And our Last One Standing, Rodney Angelo, completed 25 loops, an awe-inspiring 167.5km!! We are all so proud of you and this huge effort!!
Now, on that very same day, Kate took on the challenge of putting on River Run as well. With 45 participants and volunteers registered, she somehow got it done with our resources split!! She managed to still be smiling afterwards and enjoy a brownie with us at The Wringer.
Now that we've covered the retrospectives... Let's get to what's coming up!!
Learn or Return to Running Social Series
In the lead-up to the Masters, we thought it was a great time to pop on a social series to help people start running or return to running. The idea is that everyone follows the Couch to 5k, and we catch up each Saturday morning (the last is the 5th of October) to get out together for one of the sessions. At least one of the committee members will be there to blow on the whistle for the intervals :) This is an excellent opportunity for people to discuss with others how they're doing, form social connections, and participate in our unique run community. If it takes a little longer to reach that 5k goal, we'll be there for you!! We've got this!! This starts tomorrow morning at 7 am, across from the YHA at the River Activation space. You can show up or contact us if you have any questions. This isn't just open to members; bring your friends too!!
We also have River Run on the 7th of September—the social media blast will happen soon! :) There are a few third-party events to look forward to as well: Stride for Health on the 14th, JDRF on the 21st, and YMCA—King of the Mountain on the 29th!! (ALSO, in September, there is Three Tribes!! - check socials out for this one soon!!)
That full calendar will get you all in master's shape over August and September.
There's a new calendar release out as well. We've made some adjustments to the AGM date. It will now be on October 26th, and the Summer Series has been shifted to December.
ASRWC MERCH!!
In case you missed it.. we have ASRWC flasks!! Also, we have a handful of hats left, with some more coming in the next few months.
Keep an eye out for our yearly survey in the coming months. It is essential for us to plan for the next year based on these responses. This year, we've focused on member experience, engagement, and volunteer appreciation. This was all because of your responses to the survey and listening to ongoing feedback and observations from events and the community.
Also, start thinking now about whether you'd be interested in joining the committee. We like to have a diverse group of people who represent our run community with various skillsets.
I will be nominating again as president, and several committee members are happy to stay on as well. With several new additions, we'll be able to tackle 2025 head-on! I've had a blast this year and am looking forward to 2025!!
Hopefully, you're still reading at this point, so let's get to it!!
Thanks for reading,
Katie and the ASRWC Committee
