May News and Upcoming Events!!

Published Wed 29 May 2024

The month started with the River Run on the 3rd, directed by Dave Holmes; we had 80 people signed up, which was impressive considering how many people were out getting their last-minute West Macs Monster training in. We're always happy to say we nailed the timing again for our members :) More of us are learning how to process race results to bring it for our peak event time.

West Macs Monster time was upon us. A few of the committee members participated, and many of us volunteered. I have so much to say about this extraordinary event that I'll write more on it soon :) To summarise, seeing our members out there participating and volunteering was incredible. Seeing each of you made us proud of our run/walk community. Whether you succeeded by finishing, getting a PB, or things didn't quite go as planned, you put yourself out there and gave it a go! We're all so proud of you either way.

Now that we've passed the Monster milestone, it's the club's peak event time!! We have so much coming up: First up is River Run this Saturday; next is Four Corners, which is the 14-16th of June; then Cassia Hill Enduro on the 29th of June. You may have seen that we have Simpson's Gap Half tickets available, too. AND you can't forget The Red Centre Wringer in August on Picnic Day long weekend.

Last week was Volunteer Appreciation Week, which led me to our Member of the Month for April: Carolyn Cann. Carolyn participates in many of the club's events and is always happy to lend a hand. She always has words of encouragement and cheer for everyone. Thank you, Carolyn!!

As usual, we have lots to share with you, and we hope you're all getting out there running or walking in the beautiful place we call home, Alice Springs.

Thanks again to you all for making this so much fun to do :)

Katie

Events Coming Up

-River Run Saturday 1st June, 6:50 am

It’s almost time for… RIVER RUN!!

Saturday, 1st June at 7am...

https://www.asrwc.com.au/events/241154/

River Run is a FREE monthly 5km/2.5km footpath loop that is suitable for everyone: runners, race walkers, casual walkers, and prams!

The start/finish is at the river footpath opposite Todd Tavern (near the River Activation Space).

Members have the opportunity to be timed during this event; non-members will not be timed (so bib pickup is not required).

Please register for the event beforehand. We will accept registrations on the day; please register online.

Now, this part is NEW. Unfortunately, any member registrations made after 5 p.m. on the day before will not be able to be timed.

Member Bib pickups are available from 6:40 am before the race.

Race briefing at 6:50 AM sharp. There will also be a prize draw for members.

The course is not pet-friendly due to the grated footbridge along the course.

Can you improve on your RIVER RUN time?

Looking forward to seeing you there!

And remember, we always need vollies too!! And because we love our vollies, they get a free coffee voucher 😋

See you there!! 🏃 🏃🏻‍♀️ 🏃‍♂️

-Four Corners Trail Series 14-16th June

The ASRWC much loved trail series.. FOUR CORNERS!

Come discover what each of Alice's corners has to offer. Run the north, south, east and west in a fun new series with four legs to be run between Friday evening and Sunday morning. Each trail will be somewhere between 5-8km's, a perfect distance for people getting started to push themselves a little and for our more seasoned trail runners. NOW.. in the spirit of volunteer recognition.. if you volunteer on 2 or more days... you can have FREE entry to the event. Email us at asrwc1@gmail if you're interested.

We've gone a different direction from badges this year. If you complete all legs of the event, you'll get an event buff. You can choose your side, too, so you can represent on the trails. :) We'll also have them for sale: $10 for members and $15 for non-members.

Friday night will see you on a Northside adventure. Dave Holmes will be race directing. Last year, his Northside Trail was a firm favourite, and I'm sure he'll be the goods again.

Saturday morning, you'll be heading to the Southside—to ROLLERCOASTER (behind the Road Transport Hall of Fame, across the railway tracks). This year, a figure of eight will change it up.

Saturday night, we're heading to West Side, starting at the Scout Hall again and will be heading to Mulga Bill. This loop will be 6.5km with 120m elevation.

Sunday morning, it's Eastside time!! There's nowhere better to finish up than at the Telegraph Station. This loop will be The Red Centre Wringer loop, CCW!! This 6.7 km loop takes you along Spencer Hill, up Stuart, onto Arrwe, and back to the Telegraph station.

There will be some nibbles after each event so you can share your trail adventures with each other and catch up.

-Cassia Hill Enduro 29th June 7AM

https://www.asrwc.com.au/events/239598

The popular Cassia Hill Enduro is back again this year.

It will be held on Saturday, 29th June 2024, starting at 7:00 am.

For those who missed the fun last year, here is a brief rundown.

How many laps of the 1.80km trail can you run in 1 hour? Runners will take off at the start of the track near Deakin Drive, run in, and do as many loops of the hill as they can in 60 minutes. Last year's highest number was 10 by both our junior and open runners.

Can we go higher this year? Who will take home the prize? The difference this year is that we will tackle the trail in the anti-clockwise direction. This is not a very technical trail, but there are some narrow portions, so runners need to be careful.

There will be prizes for the open male, open female and open junior male and female with the most loops.

There will also be a morning tea afterwards.

Entry Details:

Adult members:  $10.00

Adult non-members: $20.00

Junior members: Free

Junior non-members: $5.00
